Tasting is an Art 3

Writer: deathdefyingdivadeathdefyingdiva

Oh the wonder of tasting! Several of you have explained that you love wine tastings, but you drink too much wine at the tastings. Hmmm...

A word of caution - the actual pour for each wine tasted should be no more than one ounce. You are preparing your senses for a magical treat remember!

To review -

1. Swirl making sure that you cover the glass pretty completely. A one-ounce pour allows

you to do this effectively.

2. Sniff with your nose in the glass to pick up all the wine's unique subtleties. Make

sure, you do these three separate times. Long deep breaths are good!

3. Now for the sip, just a sip. Remember you will be repeating this with the wine, and the cheese, and the chocolate.

4. Swish this tiny sip to coat your mouth.

5. Swallow and savor.

REPEAT - the second tasting will give you the true flavor of the wine.

My tastings include four to five different wines. Five ounces broken down to one ounce pours for each wine tasted allows you to get a true taste of each wine. Then in the second hour of the tasting, you can select a glass of the wine you prefer to enjoy after carefully assessing each wine separately.

Thus, following a formal tasting, you will better appreciate the nuances and marvels of picking just the right wine!

Only joy from the Diva,

Anne
